Recommendation Single Pole Switch With Red And Black Wires
Connect the black wire to the other brass screw.
Single pole switch with red and black wires. I ve had quite a time trying to connect this switch to no avail. If you have a ground wire connect the ground wire to the green screw. Red load outside light that means you should measure 120v from white to black.
My understand is that you re meant to use either the screws or the quickwire on a single pole switch so this seems a little hokey. Wire the new single pole switch. 120v from red to black.
So far i can t seem to wire this to work. Then strip about 3 4 inch of insulation using wire strippers. Inspect the end of each wire.
You wire a double pole switch in essentially the same way as a single pole one but it s important to remember to keep the red wires on one side of the switch and the black wires on the other. All the white wires are capped together and the same is for the ground wires. The old switch was attached with two blacks inserted into the back of the switch.
Hi all i am replacing my single pole light switch and noticed when i removed the old switch that there are three black wires coming from the box. Of the three black wires only one of them is hot. If you took the bulb out you wouldn t measure this anymore your single pole switch should connect to the red and black wires.
I removed the old switch and it had the normal black and white wires going into the quickwire holes but additionally a red wire secured with the upper screw on the side. It should have about 1 2 inch of bare wire at the end and should be formed into a hook like loop. This switch and another switch can either be activated to turn on the light they are connected to.
